Welcome to our new MSTCA President, Mrs. Linda Rowbotham

On President’s Day 2022, I got the call to step up and lead our Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association as President. Having served as Vice President, I knew that our 472 current members needed a stable and progressive organization with the Spring Outdoor Track & Field Season fast approaching. Rest assured that Coach Mike Miller, our Director of Meet Operations for Outdoor Track, has been working closely with all of the member coaches who will be hosting our full slate of Spring Meets. We believe that our trackletes deserve a normal season where they can run, jump, throw, hurdle and vault to personal and team success.

Thanks to the hard work of Coach Matt Carr, our Director of Meet Operations for Indoor Track, along with a dedicated group of Meet Directors, Officials & MSTCA/Reggie Workers, we had an amazing season throughout the Winter Months. Kudos to Coach Rick Kates, our Director of Timing Services, and his staff of timers who brought fantastic live results. Special thanks to Coach Chuck Martin, our Director of Equipment & Logistics, and his assistant, Coach Brandon Palmer, who spent countless hours prepping for our meets and providing continuous support during the meets. And how about our incredible Coach Hatim Jean-Louis?; he brought the track into the homes of every athlete throughout the state which helped families and fans cheer for their athletes. The work of Bay State Running to provide free live streaming coverage of all of our races was immensely popular and greatly appreciated during this pandemic year.

Moving forward, we are so excited for the 47th New England Track & Field Clinic that Coach Mark Thornhill, Clinic Coordinator, and Coach Fred Doyle, our Director of Special Events, have organized for you to learn, network and have fun with your fellow coaches. We will honor our 2021 Cross Country Coaches of the Year and our 2021/2022 Indoor Track and Field Coaches of the Year at our Friday night evening social event, so please plan to come and celebrate their well-deserved recognition.

As your President, I will preside over the General Membership Meeting during Saturday’s Lunch at the Clinic. Coach Jayson Sylvain, our Chief Financial Officer/Cabinet Chair, & I will present our current organizational structure and an overall MSTCA update. We really hope that many of you can attend to hear the direction that we are moving in and to share your ideas.

I would be remiss to not thank a few more people who work diligently behind the scenes. First, Coach Tim Cimeno, our Director of Marketing/Business Development, has brought in Hoka as a major sponsor of our organization and Marathon Sports with their “fan’tastic t-shirts and apparel. Coach Kent Taylor, our Director of Communications & Social Media, sends out timely member emails and keeps our social media presence out there for everyone to stay connected and informed.

In closing, I want our entire membership to know that Coach Frank Mooney (MSTCA Special Consultant), Coach Jimmy Hoar (Past President), Coach Lou Tozzi (Chair, Board of Trustees) and our Board of Trustees (Coach John Monz, Coach Bill Kane, Coach Charlie Butterfield. Coach Charlie O’Rourke, Coach Bill Jennings, Coach Dom Finelli, Coach Keith McDermott, and Coach Jeanne Teasdale) have been instrumental in sharing their wealth of knowledge and support as I embark on the next two years as your President. I am also happy and very excited to announce that I have appointed Coach Matt Griffin as our Interim Vice President to join Coach Len Harmon (Secretary) and I as your leadership team.

We are really looking forward to sharing more with you at the Clinic, so please plan to be there and make sure to register at https://mstca.org/camps-and-clinics/new-england-track-field-clinic It is my true honor to lead this outstanding organization and I promise to remain dedicated to our membership and athletes throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
