My high school motto was, “not for school but for life.” I have used coaching as an opportunity to teach students that preparation is important. Being positive and confident (rather than anxious) and giving your best will produce positive results. My first goal was to create a caring and positive environment. My next goal was to teach them athletic skills that they could use for life. Like a work of art in a museum, I said each of them was a one of a kind masterpiece. They became positively engaged, appreciative and motivated to do well. I have been blessed to coach students who have been invested, coachable and a pleasure to work with. I have also had some very talented athletes. We are very fortunate to work with track and field student athletes. They tend to be very good students, friendly and cooperative. As a retired coach, I do miss the experience that I loved. Statistics that were dug up when I retired, had my Indoor/Outdoor record as 405 wins and 71 losses, with 26 league championships and 6 WMASS championships. The most important statistic to me was the 4560 student athletes that stepped over a hurdle and touched my heart. I wish them the very best in all their endeavors, and I pray that God will bless, protect and guide them throughout life’s journey.
