Winner of this year’s special election requested by the Executive Board of previous runner-up candidates, coach McKenney-Finn joins The Hall. Coach Mary Beth began her running career at Lowell HS, , class of ’86, then she went on to UMass-Lowell as a sprinter for four more years. Wanting more distance, she has now run seven Boston Marathons ! In 60 combined seasons at powerhouse Lowell HS , her record is 137-67 ,including 7 Merrimack Valley Conference championships, 3 EMASS Div. 1 titles ,two Div. 1 runner-up finishes, three 3rd place finishes and a huge second place in the 2016 MA All State meet. Her team also won the 2016 Bay State Invitational crown , and has continued to be one of the premier EMASS clubs.Additionally, she is a four time Lowell Sun Coach of the Year in Cross Country, a 6 time MVC COY, and a former MSTCA COY in 2012. This is Mary Beth’s 24th season as Head Coach of Cross Country at Lowell HS and she feels this honor should be shared with the great coaches she has worked with for the past several years, including mentor Phil Maia , Jim McGuirk (who called her to coach with him back in 1995), Tim Patterson, “who deserves a lot of credit for our team’s success “ , Nate Kraft and Scott Ouellet. She stated ,“I am very humbled to be part of this elite group of coaches.” Mary Beth credits her husband, James , “who has sacrificed a lot of Saturdays when I was off at meets along with my daughter Erin ,who has had to share me with a lot of other kids.”
