Coach Estey enters the Hall with a familiar formula- graduate from high school, then return to oversee a dynamic track program. An accomplished athlete at North Attleboro, and later at UConn. Dwight began his alma mater in 1979, and quickly built a team with no tradition into an EMASS power. His girls tenure has resulted in an outstanding record of 206-17-1. Perhaps one of Mr. Estey’s greatest accomplishments is his tireless effort to promote our sport. For those looking for a primer on website excellence, go to www.northrunning.com for a magnificent summary of North Attleboro track, results, national information, running history and beyond. Dwight is particularly proud of his wife of 30 years, Arlene, for her support and assistance, and has maintained contact, files, and pictures back to the 1950’s of track alumni. Dwight’s 27 years at N. Attleboro have resulted in an overall record of 402-94-4 for an 82% winning percentage, including 7 class relay crowns, 3 class titles, and a pair of state victories, and as Athletic Director Paul Sullivan terms it “a single minded devotion to track and field”. In 1989, Mr. Estey also assumed the head coaching duties of the boys program and at one time ran off a streak of 59 consecutive wins and four straight Hockomock League Titles. These marks are still standing records at North Attleboro for any sport. Additionally, Dwight was Boston Globe Girls Coach of the Year in 1986. Recently, Mr. Estey has been the spring site director for the Class B boys and girls relay meet and true to form has done an impeccable job. One of Dwight’s biggest boosters has been Bally Fitness guru Jerry Espinosa who actually broke Mr. Estey’s school high jump record. He speaks of his “unending commitment to his athletes”, and the fact that he has mentored and inspired many athletes to coach and serve the track and feild community, to become a “true Giant in our sport.”
