“Winnie” MacDonald graduated AHS in 1954, but couldn’t stay away. Winnie is entering the Hall of Fame for his stellar service to AHS as track coach and athletic director. His resume includes a 35 year teaching career, 33 years as track coach, Athletic Director from 1967-1986, 13 years as Asst. Football Coach, Boy’s Volleyball Coach and Wrestling Coach. Winnie built a track dynasty at AHS. His Overall Track Record was 227-90. He coached 9 undefeated championship track teams, 5 straight seasons without a loss and amassed a 54 dual track meet win streak. Winnie’s track teams won 8 Intercounty League titles and had one losing track season from 1967-1990. Other highlights from Winnie’s career include: Asst. Coach for 1962 Undefeated football Team, Former Athletic Director of the Year, and 3 time President of Franklin County Athletic Directors. Winnie was also honored at AHS with the infamous “Winston R. MacDonald Home Run Derby Park.” After AHS Winnie attended UMASS and played both football and lacrosse. He served as a 2nd Lt. in the United States Army Tank Corps. In 2001, Winnie lost his first wife Virginia. The couple raised five children together. Winnie has since remarried, reuniting with his high school classmate Patricia. Winnie and Patricia have 17 grandchildren between them.
