Frank McCarthy

Cambridge Rindge and Latin

Frank McCarthy stands at the top of the list when it comes to so many years of tremendous success as coach of cross country, indoor and outdoor track at both Rindge Tech and Cambridge Rindge and Latin. His teams and many individuals resurrected the legacy of former Rindge Coach Tom Duffy and solidified Cambridge’s place as the perennial favorite in track circles Frank joined the English Department at Rindge in 1966 and took over the coaching job in 1969. Within five years his Warrior teams captured three consecutive State Indoor championships. You might say, “The rest is history!” With the merger of Rindge and CHLS in 1977 some re-organizing took place before a powerhouse of teams dominated throughout the ‘80s and into the ‘90s. His teams boast of numerous members of the various Cambridge Halls of Fame. Many of his athletes set school, league and state records. Some still stand. In fact, every school record except three were broken by one of Frank's athletes. Three of his athletes went on to coach track at CHLS- John Silva ‘73, Scott Cody ‘88 and Jamalh Prince ‘88. Frank, himself, was a standout runner at the former Boston State College where he captured two New England championships. He was induced into the University of Massachusetts Hall of Fame in 2006. Frank and his wife Andrea, reside in Lexington. Cambridge is proud to induct Frank McCarthy into its Athletic Hall of Fame.
