Ed Gastonguay served 39 years in the Fitchburg Public School system as an English teacher and a Guidance counselor during which he coached track (indoor and outdoor) and cross-country. His cross-country squads were 137-39 with a fourth place in the states in the 1987 campaign. Ed’s teams were always known for their excellence and true qualities of sportsmanship. He was a premier middle distant runner at Brandeis University where his 1:49.9 800 meter mark still stands at his alma mater. Ed was a tough competitor as a coach, but was always considered one of the Central Massachusetts’ finest gentlemen.
