Don Duncan

Weston

A US Army veteran, Mr. Duncan’s career as a Weston High School industrial arts and electronics teacher spanned decades. The Weston cross country and outdoor track coach from 1962 to 1995, his teams won 480 meets and 30 Dual County League championships. Coach Duncan guided the cross country team to a Massachusetts state championship, 12 league championships, and two sectional titles, and the spring track squad to an overall record of 193-27 with 14 league titles and seven sectional titles. The Weston indoor track team won four Dual County championships with three undefeated season from 1966-1969, during his only seasons at the helm. Don Duncan will also be remembered for a powerful nominating message he delivered prior to the Hall of Fame induction of long-time state record holding shot putter Joe Naughton. While doing justice to the remarkable accomplishments, courage and character of Joe Naughton, Coach Duncan revealed a depth of personal connection between coach and athlete that will serve as a standard for the ages. Don Duncan viewed track as a dress rehearsal for life. He made a lot of boys better athletes, and better men.
