Phil Ryan

Holliston

This year’s inducted in the Veteran’s Division comes to us from Holliston High School, where he coached for forty two seasons. Coach Ryan from Holliston legend for his many contributions to the school and community and was nominated by Executive board member Aaron Ladd for this honor. Phil coached cross country and indoors and was spring track assistant for 4 seasons. He was the first coach for the Panther’s harriers back in 1967 and Coach Ryan’s record in cross country was outstanding. Twenty undefeated seasons, including nine straight years from 1985-1993, and 247 wins were part of Phil’s terrific tenure there, until he retired after the 2016 season. Coach Ryan also led his cross country teams to twenty four league titles, and numerous All-State qualifiers. He also started the winter track program as Holliston’s first varsity coach in 1973, and his indoor squads were the 1977 Class D state champs, and additionally he had three undefeated seasons. Phil wishes to thank his 37 year career as a teacher, and for students athletes “without their dedication and willingness to train, I would never have been successful.” Lastly, Phil wishes to thank MSTCA Executive Director Frank Mooney for his many years of dedication and service.
