Coach Babcock has had a storied career beginning at his alma mater, Saugus, in the mid 1980’s, where he was a five time Northeast Conference Coach of the Year, a Boston Globe Coach of the Year, and started the girls outdoor program there. Additionally, Bill was elected to the Saugus Hall of Fame in 1995. “On to Lexington” in 2001, where he has compiled an outstanding 196-24 record in the challenging Middlesex League. Most importantly, the Lexington boys have been annual contenders in League and State level meets. The indoor squad has two Class A titles, and two all state crowns, and the Spring teams have had numerous top three finishes. Most recently, Coach Babcock’s Winter Track team captured it’s greatest prize- the 2015 MIAA Division 1 crown over the powerful Andover and Peabody clubs. But it is Coach Babcock’s passion for track, the relationship with his athletes, his dedication, and the admiration his athletes have for him that is extraordinary. No wonder, Lexington’s Emmett O’Brien stated, “If entry into the Hall is based not just on championships, but respect from peers and athletes, then Bill Babcock should be a slam dunk.” Bill wishes to thank his parents, his own coaches as an athlete “growing up”, his staff, and “all the athletes I had the pleasure of coaching over these many years”.
