“Coach D” has coached at Somerville High for the past thirty one years including 24 years as head outdoor coach and 17 as indoor head. During this time his teams have recorded 12 Greater Boston League Championships, 11 undefeated seasons p, and numerous individual, team, and relay titles. Dave is a perfect example of fulfilling the criteria for entrances the MSTCA Hall of Fame. Longevity, success, contributions to the sport, character and dedication are his hallmarks. His boys have won 26 individual MIAA championships, 6 NE meet titles, and two of his athletes, Luis Moreira and Ricky Arismendi have been named All-Americans. Additionally, Andre Rolim holds both Massachusetts and All-State record and for the 600m, and Moreira the MA Division I record in hurdles, Coach Dickerson “specialty”. Highly regarded by the entire Somerville community for not only his Track and Field expertise, but also for his work at the high school as a Special Education Administrator, letters of support were numerous. Included among the tributes were those from the Mayor, Superintendent of Schools, Head Master, Athletic Director, Assistant A.D. and team captain. Dave especially wants to that Hall of Famer Charlie O’Rourke for his mentoring and friendship during thirty years of his “dream job”.
