This year’s CMASS-WMASS honoree enters The Hall from tiny Hopedale High School… but Coach Drugan has built a big time program there. Born and raised in the the Hopedale-Milford area, Joe began coaching in 1993 at the suggestion of his wife and has developed a perennial powerhouse distance contingent. With “Drugie” at the helm, Hopedale has won three Division 3 state championships and been State runner-up twice since 2005. Additionally, his boys have won the Duel Valley Conference crown ten times, the McIntyre Invitational Division 2 five times, and the CMASS Division 2 crown an amazing eight times since 2005. His overall record is 139-29 and includes two individual State champs and three runners who became collegiate All-Americans . (Joe wants to thank “stat whiz” Mike Mahonfor his compilation!) Coach Drugan was nominated by MSTCA Hall-of-Famer Kevin Maloney, who stared “until Joe took over at Hopedale, they were not good and won nothing”, which accurately reflects the tremendous job he has done. Through all of his team’s success, Joe is only interested in crediting his athletes and he wishes to thank them, “for putting the tiny mill town of Hopedale on the track and field map.” He especially is thankful for the support of his wife, Andrea, and the late Larry Olsen.
