Matt Carr

Burlington High School

Matt ran for and started his coaches career under Ross Newcomb at Burlington High, where he still remains today. Coach Carr credits Ross and Joe Levasseur, the girls’ coach at the time, as his mentors, and also Rich Hickey of the MTFOA for his guidance. When Matt became head coach, he was fortunate to have a group of assistants who “navigated challenges”, and he credits the staff stability for much of Burlington’s success. Josh Murphy, Kevin Murray, Kevin Griffin, and the current trio of Pat Magee, Greg Nelson, and Dan Indingaro all were previous BHS tracksters and Coach Carr credits them for much of the teams success. Matt’s team have won ten Middlesex League titles, two Middlesex League All Conference championships, six prestigious MSTCA State Relays titles, two MIAA Divisional crowns, and had two MIAA runner-up finishes. Matt is also a five time Boston Globe COY! The team has grown from about 40 athletes when Coach Carr began his tenure, to over 100 this spring season, in a school with only about 450 boys total enrollment. Burlington also has had a national champion, All-Americans, and numerous state champs, but the ever enthusiastic coach started, “it’s equally as fun to coach hundreds of hard working kids who worked for self improvement and contributed to the Burlington High School team effort.” Matt recently retired from his teaching role at BHS where he wishes to thank “all those who helped me get here.”
