Middle Distance

Bob Sheehan ranks among the top middle distance runners ever developed in Massachusetts and the finest in Cambridge’s storied track history. A multi-talented runner, Bob competed in cross country, Indoor and Outdoor track 600 yd., 800m, 1000yd, 1500m, mile, two mile, and relay.For all of his four years atCRLS (16 seasons) and was chosen captain for six teams. With his tremendous range as a runner, Bob competed successfully in the highly competitive Suburban League, made it to eight All-Star Teams and was league and was league champion in different events multiple times. Almost 30 years later, Bob still holds five career-running records for Cambridge, along with the State Division 1 mile outdoor record. He is the Cambridge track record holder in the 1000 yds. Indoor and outdoor mile, the 1500 meters, and he anchored the record setting Sprint Medley team. In the State Indoor Relay Championships, Bob ran anchor on the sprint medley relay team that set a class record at that meet. In the State Coaches Meet, in which the best runners in the state competed, he won the 1000 yd. run and anchored the winning mile relay team. In the Class A State Championship, Bob was victorious in the 1000 yd. run. He ran the fastest time in that event in the USA that year. His time of 2:13 is still a meet record. For those accomplishments, he was named All Scholastic by the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald and was named the Indoor and Outdoor Track Athletic of the Year At the National High School Championships in California, his 4:10 mile is still on the list of the top ten miles ever run by a Massachusetts schoolboy
