Peggy Stewart and she was a 1979 graduate of Danvers High School and a 1983 graduate of Villanova University, where she attended on a full track scholarship. Peggy was the first and I believe the only athlete to be chosen during the same season as a Boston Globe All Scholastic in two events. She was so dominant in the high jump and hurdles that they selected her for both those events during the same season. Peggy gives a special shout-out to her two high school coaches Dave Jellison, here today, and Mike Orechia. As the captain of her track team along with Leigh Cohen, Peggy had many great teammates over her high school career, who, together, won the All State championship and the New England Championships in 1979 where she won both the high jump and 100m hurdles. While attending Villanova, she said one of her fondest memories while in college was her NCAA D2 high jump championship while at Villanova. Her performance of 1.81 meters or 5’11.75” still ranks #2 at Villanova. She still holds 4 Villanova school records that will never be broken and a Little-known fact is that she still ranks #12 all time in the pentathlon at Villanova.
