Our next inductee, Michelle Millane Bell is a 1982 graduate of North Quincy High School and a 1987 nursing graduate of Northeastern University. Her accomplishments are among the best this state has ever seen. Michelle is one of the all-time great throwing athletes to have graced the circles and cages of all of New England. According to her high school Coach, Lou Tozzi, it seems to have all started way back when, when Geoff Hennessey told him about this young girl who showed tremendous potential performing with the local club track program. And it didn’t take long for Coach Hennessey’s prediction to come true. As a sophomore, she was selected to the Boston Globe All-Star team. Her write up stated, “When Brockton’s Pia Iacovo set the state record a year ago, it was thought that would be a mark to stand for many years. The thinking has changed already, however, and the heir apparent to Iacovo is Michelle Millane, a sophomore, who dominated the event this year in her first season of varsity track” Michelle has taken her passion for the sport as a coach at her Alma Mater, North Quincy High School, where she has coached many throwers to league, divisional and All-State Championships. While on an athletic scholarship to Northeastern, some of her greatest accomplishments was being the Greater Boston Champion in not one, not two but three events, when in 1987 she won the Shot, Disc and Javelin. Michelle was the New England champion in the discus with a toss of 155’10” which at the time was the New England record. And fulfilled the prophecy of the Boston Globe in her sophomore year by breaking the record of Pia Iacovo. 1987 was a great year for her as she was chosen a member of the Eastern Olympic Festival Team. Michelle is currently a staff nurse on the cardiac access unit at MGH. She currently lives in Quincy with her husband, Robert and her two children, Elizabeth and John.
