The lead off leg of 1200m was run by Josh Palazola his 3:04.1 opening leg gave the Gloucester team the lead they needed. In his career at Gloucester he had PR”s of 4:16.84 in the mile 9:18.34 pr in the 2 mile and 3:53.31 for 1500m. Josh would now hand off to the 400m leg, Ngai Otieno. Ngai was A pure speedster, he had won a State Championship in the 55m at 6.57, a 22’ long jumper, and an outstanding football player! His 49.5pr split extended their teams lead. Ngai would hand the baton to the smooth striding Shawn Milne. After college Shawn would go on to become a professional cyclist in road racing and raced throughout the world from 2005 to 2014. But on March 10, 2000 he was a half mile specialist, his 1:56.4 split in the 800m leg gave the anchor leg Tristan Colangelo a huge lead that was never relinquished, in fact the lead would just grow. His 4:09.9 anchor leg not only won the national title, but the Gloucester DMR team would become the first high school team in history to break 10 minutes in that race. Their National record stood for 17 years. Other accomplishments by Tristan included mile wins at the Dartmouth relays and a Milrose Mile champion. His open mile PR of 4:09.75 which still ranks as the #5 all time in Massachusetts history.
