MIAA Fall Sports Update

MSTCA members,

I hope this update finds you and your families safe and healthy during these uncertain times.

The COVID-19 pandemic has uprooted our sense of normalcy and left us with many unanswered questions. As schools look to start back up, districts are moving to hybrid or fully remote models while simultaneously seeking out extra-curricular opportunities for their student-athletes.

The MSTCA Executive Committee has been working in collaboration with the sub-committees as well as multiple organizations state-wide to continue our mission to put forward the best cross country and track and field experiences for student-athletes. In particular, I would like to thank our XC Committee led by coaches James Fletcher and Jayson Sylvain, the Finance Committee led by coach Bill Tilden, and the multiple officers in the MSTCA including Jim Hoar, Jay Slyvain, Tim Cimeno and Joe Grant. They’ve spent innumerable hours working valiantly in an effort to uphold the cross country circuit.

At this time, the MSTCA is monitoring the start of school in regards to local and state health metrics and determining our best course of action based on the “Rules Modifications and Guidelines” plan set forth by the MIAA . If you have not seen the document, here is the link:

With this in mind, the MSTCA is working on hosting possible events in mid-October/November while adhering to EEA and DPH guidelines, and we hope to have a concrete plan set in place by the end of this month. We look forward to continuing to offer the same high level competitions this fall that you’ve seen in previous years. Thank you in advance for your patience while we work through the logistics.

Stay Safe,

Rick Kates

MSTCA Executive Director
