Learn By Doing Clinic Closes 2022!
Greetings and Happy New Year,
Here is the recap from yesterday's Learn By Doing Clinic. Can't thank our fabulous clinicians enough for sharing their expertise with the MSTCA Track athletes.
-About 240+ athletes from 21 schools attended - also about 24 coaches many of whom listened in on many of the sessions. Schools came from all over the state including MSTCA member Chip Langmaid's St Johnsbury, VT team.
Overall it was a great day …very beneficial to all attendees. Feedback was all very positive.
We brought back some favorite clinicians, and added in some new faces to freshen up the clinic message. Outstanding newcomers who will be added to the March Coaches Clinic - Mike Bower & Graham Eatonare definites.
Injury Treatment & Prevention continues to be a favorite elective. Will add Paul McGovern as a clinician to cover this topic as well as workouts for injured athletes for the Coaches Clinic.
Date change was a hit and attracted more athletes than previous years. The Christmas vacation week worked well, and kids were over their early season aches and pains. Kids also had a preliminary knowledge of their events too.
Three sessions seem to be the right number for both athletes and clinicians.
Nicole O'Neil tested positive for Covid and we lost our HJ Clinician. Fortunately the Brockton Assistant Coach jumped in and ran 2 sessions for the athletes.
Dave Dickerson (Somerville HS) "I come here every year. One year I had a beginner learn how to hurdle at the clinic and a couple years later he was a State Champ."
- Nike rep Russell Wells was on hand with try-on shoes, stickers and advice on shoes and apparel. He contributed 8 items for the raffle.
Staff at Reggie did a nice job with the setup. Box lunches (Roche Bros.) vastly improved from prior years.
Lou did a great job with all the printed sheets, signage, raffle prizes and set up organization. With 27 raffle prizes there were a lot of winners. Definitely not his first rodeo!
Thanks to Chuck Martin for his help all day.
Ben Burgess provided his expertise compiling the bios and formatting the teams and schedule. He was extremely helpful today in assisting clinicians and taking videos of the various sessions. He put together a video of highlights from all the clinicians, which is below. In a word AWESOME!
-This continues to be a good opportunity to view clinicians in action and to fill voids in the March Coaches Clinic lineup.
Additional thoughts from those attending are more than welcome. Thanks!
Best,
Fred & Lou
