Congratulations to the Coach of the Year Award Recipients. They were all acknowleged at the MSTCA Clinic this past weekend.
EMASS Boys X-C Coach of the Year
Jeff Bartlett - Danvers
Coach Bartlett said that the seeds for this season were sown four years ago, with a class of freshmen deciding to buy into the team culture and adding in their own flourish. They helped redefine what "fast" meant at Danvers HS.

Jaime Murphy - Holliston HS
Coach Murphy said this historic season showed what dedication and commitment looks like. She appreciated all the support she received from the team, parents, fellow TVL coaches, HHS athletic staff, and family.
Undefeated in all TVL dual meets
Won TVL Classic with 17 points including the Top 4
Won D2 Girls with 25 points including the Top 3 (6 in Top 15)
Won All State Championship D2 Title with 30 points (5 in Top 15)

Brian Moore - Newburyport HS
Coach Moore was proud of his team’s effort this year noting that they persevered through Covid, set goals, and achieved them together. No superstars, but a complete team effort. He credits his Brockton HS coaches- Hall of Famers Bill Jennings and Harry Allen, who taught him the value of the 5Cs- Courage, Commitment, Confidence, Class and Character.

Jessica McCarthy - Burlington HS
A former student athlete @ Burlington HS(2010), Coach McCarthy was extremely proud to coach the 2022 girls indoor track team. This Girls team was one of the most successful in the program’s history. Jessica thanks her assistant coaches and Boy’s coaches for their help this winter.

The Longmeadow Girls Cross Country 2021 Team was the most accomplished team in program history.

3rd Place at Division 2A State Sectionals
6th Place at Division 2 All States
Our 4 senior captains: Shea Hamel, Katarina Boskovic, Hannah Rooney, Erin Vasu provided phenomenal leadership throughout the season and modeled the importance of summer running.
We created an 18 min., 19 min. , 20 min. and 21 min. 5K running club with club t-shirts. Sophomore Ada Grant joined with a 19:13 and Shea Hamel with a 19:45 both at Wrentham-States. Both made the individual record board. Shout out to Katarina Boskovic who made it her goal to pass as many runners as possible in the last 800 meters and a 20 min. club member.

Jim Flaherty - Longmeadow High School
First undefeated season and PVIAC Championship for Boys XC ever! They were Undefeated Valley North League Champs - The icing on the cake at PVIAC was winning the JV race led by a great class of freshmen.
We had a very special group of senior leaders this year led by Will Cowley and Jonah Barresi who, with their fellow captains, raised the bar of our team's expectations and elevated our team culture.
The best part of the season was watching these kids grow and become excellent young men, exhibiting the highest levels of sportsmanship, humble in victory and gracious in defeat, and learning and living the values of hard work, commitment, and accountability.

Adam Tanguay – Chicopee High School
The girls team was extremely dedicated & willing to travel for the opportunity to compete this season
Broke the 15 year old school record in the Shot put
At the MIAA D3 Meet we had 6 individuals and 1 relay qualify, with 2 top 3 finishers
We had 2 competitors at the MIAA All State meet
One athlete participated in the Nike Indoor Nationals
WMASS Indoor Track & Field – Boys Coach of the Year!
Kelsey Weber – Minnechaug Regional High School
Organized and held High Jump and Shot Put meets open to all Western Mass schools in the Minnechaug gym with over 250 total entries.
Boys team went 19 and 1 against Western Mass opponents with unofficial scoring at the two PVIAC meets.
Jeremy Diehl came in 2nd in Boys High Jump at the Division 3 Championship meet. Qualified for The Meet of Champions/States.
A'Yuri Clark came in 4th in the 55m at the Division 3 Championship Meet with an automatic qualifying time for The Meet of Champions/States and made it to finals of that Meet.
4x400 Boys Relay came in 4th at the Division 3 Championship meet.

Ben Benoit - Parker Charter School
Coach Benoit has been Coach at Parker Charter for 24 years and in that time has created a perennial distance powerhouse earning accolades and honors in Central Mass and Statewide. This season was historic with the program earning its second state championship in five years.
Undefeated in Colonial Athletic League in dual meets and League Championship meets since 2008

Chris Vander Baan - Whitinsville Christian School
Coach Vander Baan hails from a small private school with only 95 girls. Four years ago he invited two girls to join the boys XC team. Three years later, he has built the number up to 19 girls running varsity XC. Grateful for the support of his family, athletes and assistant coaches, Coach Vander Baan is looking forward to continued success.
Team won six invitational meets including the Central Mass District Invitational Championship
Won the Dual Valley Conference Championship
10/19 athletes broke 20 minutes for 5k
1st place finish at Division 2C Meet at Gardner
2nd place finish in Division 2 All State Meet

Steve Beckwith - Nashoba Regional High School
Coach Beckwith indoor track team is deep and talented, with the likes of distance phenom Freddy Collins and Tristan O'Reardon leading a crew of sprinters, jumpers and throwers to success all season. Coach Beckwith's coaching philosophy and approach to the sport ensures that his athletes take away more than the wins and individual success. His athletes are well respected for their talent and their character. This combined to make a special season culminating in a Division 3 Championship.

Ted Painter - Littleton High School
Coach Painter believes that his team is a shining example of what a small team with a big heart can accomplish and he is proud to be a part of such a great culture of success. Collaborating with the boys coach Casey Kaldenberg and taking over for longtime coach Mark Saucier, the Littleton team did not miss a beat with a team of only 23 girls producing 11 league all stars and an individual state champion.
