Brother Myles Mcmanus, CFX

Malden Catholic

The late Brother Myles was a Malden Catholic icon who touched the lives of thousands of young men. Induced into the Malden Catholic High School Hall of Fame in 1989, he was a major figure in Cross Country, Indoor, and Spring Track over 25 years at both the Highland Avenue and Crystal Street campus locations. His accomplishments include 1965-66 State Meet runner-up in Cross Country, five Tri-County League titles in Winter Track, 1971 Class D chaps in Spring, and 1987 Class A State Relay Champs outdoors. Some of his top athletes were Tom Dempsey, Dan Moynihan, Art McDermott and our own Hall-of Famer Lou Ruggiero, who also served as Brother Myles assistant coach. He also was one of the first proponents of State Meet qualification standards. Affectionately known as “Coach”, and as “Bump” for his practice of bumping students into lockers at the ‘old’ MC, Brother Myles left us on April 28, 1995. The Brother Myles Memorial Track and Scholarship Fund has been established in his honor.
