Dan Walsh

Springfield Cathedral

This year’s CMASS-WMASS recipient is our 2018 longest tenured coach. Dan started his sterling career back in 1970 as an assistant at Springfield Cathedral, his hired before he even finished college by A.D. Charlie Casserly, who later became an NFL General Manager. As a head coach at Cathedral, and recently at Pope Francis, Dan has tailed over 600 wins! He has been Meet Director for the WMASS Championships and the George Steele Relays, along with the V.P. and Secretary of WMASS Coaches Association, where he is a member of their Hall of Fame. Enthusiastically endorsed by WMASS Reps Mike Budd and Linda Rowbotham, Coach Walsh is revered by his colleagues, and as MSTCA Hall of Famer, Bill Kane stated, “If I could not coach my own kids, I would want them coached by Dan Walsh.” Dan has coached a WMASS champion in every track and field event, and has proudly coached multiple state champs. No wonder, before his MSTCA honor today he was given a hometown “salute” yesterday at Nathan Bill’s in Springfield. Coach Walsh met Coleen Shea at Cathedral when they were 15 years old, and now they have been married for 40 years
