One of Newburyport’s own, Foley has been coaching various NHS athletic teams for over three decades, having graduated as a Clipper in 1968. He’s been a special needs teacher for 35 years, and made his coaching debut with the high school girls basketball team before coaching boys outdoor track in ‘85. The girls outdoor team was added in 1992. During that time, Foley has led individual athletes to State Championship titles in several outdoor events and is a 16-time Cape Ann League Coach of the Year. With Foley at the helm, the outdoor track squads have have captured many League Conference titles, a 2006 boys State Championship and 1998 State Championship title for the Girls. He was honored with the 2010 Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Coach of the Year and in March 2017, he was nominated for the MSTCA Hall of Fame with induction slated for this spring
