Long Jump, Hurdles

The storied Falmouth High School girls track and field program was turning out Hall of Famers right and left in the late 70’s early 80’s. Anne becomes the fourth athlete out of Falmouth High School to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, she joins Johanna Forman, Nancy Robinson and Greg Gonsalves who she remembers fondly as her travelling companion on many trips to many national competitions. Anne was one of the most diverse track athletes to ever compete at Falmouth. You could say that she specialized in the high jump, the long jump, the hurdles, the 200, 400, 600, 800 and cross country. Her high school coach, John Carrol, remembers trying to convince her to run XC. She eventually capitulated and just added to her repertoire of athleticism. Needless to say, the Falmouth girls team won State Championships both indoors and out in her junior and senior year. Starting in her sophomore year Anne never lost a hurdle race in any of her dual meets. As a junior during her indoor season Anne was runner up in the 50-yard hurdles and places at the prestigious Eastern States meet held at Princeton University. During her outdoor season she was the Division I and All State Champion in the 100m hurdles, the long jump and the 4x100meter relay. She almost single handedly wins the All-State Team title. Anne definitely saved the best for last. In her senior year. On the boards indoors she was the D-1 and All State Champion in the 50-yard hurdles setting a Mass and National H.S. record when she ran 6.81. At the Eastern States Girls national meet, she was runner up but set a new Mass State 55-meter record by running 8.11. During that indoor season she qualified for the United State AAU Championships where she matched her 8.11 time. In the spring of her senior year she again was the D-1 and All State champion in the hurdles where she ran a new State record running 14.12. Again she won the long jump and helped her 4x100 meter relay team win another title. Also winning another team title for Falmouth. Anne would end up at Boston University where just last year was Honored by being inducted and place on the BU Wall of Honor. While at BU she had PR’s of 14.1 in the 100m hurdles a 19’8” long jump and a 5’10” high jump. She was also honored as the teams MVP.
